A cross sectional risk factor survey in different ethnic groups has been completed.
400 white, 400 black Caribbean and 200 black African subjects were examined, questioned
and blood samples taken. Two papers have been submitted on the clinical findings and the attitudes
and beliefs regarding risk factors. Data from this group of controls have being compared with
the stroke register patients who have similar investigations, bloods and risk factor questions.
The blood collected from these subjects is immensely valuable and being used in further projects
(see Hugh Markus project). Papers have been produced on the ethnic differences in risk factors
and a case control of stroke patients and the controls in this study.
